MTUC kicks PKR out!

Yes, thats the guy (2nd from left) who was kicked out by MTUC delegates who was sick and tired of PKR politics in the Trades Union Congress.

Its public knowledge that the Malaysian Trades Union Congress or MTUC has, in recent years, been hijacked by leaders who turned politicians.

Instead of being the Voice of the workers the President for the last six years was more interested in his anti-Government politics. Not surprising though from the Kelana Jaya PKR Division chief.

While the so-called shouts and fiery statements in the interest of workers grew louder under Syed Shahir Syed Muhamad, tangible results were glaringly absent. Being an Opposition politician was a mask he couldn't remove for the better interest of the workers.

After Senator Datuk Zainal Rampak was ousted in 2004, MTUC somewhat lost its relevance. The umbrella-body of the trade unions around the country was reduced to merely an Opposition mouthpiece.

Syed Shahir was not a trade union leader or wasn't behaving as one, he was an Opposition politician with an axe to grind.

He was not independent and this was made clear by MTUC's outgoing Secretary General G.Rajasegaran a few days ago.

"MTUC should continue to pursue the issues that were being initiated by the present council and bring them to fruition.

He felt that the new council should engage more with the government and work towards the good of the workers and the nation

“We realise that in the past we had been perceived to be anti-government because some of our leaders were in the opposition party,” he said.

“It is vital that the incoming council should eradicate this perception and sincerely work with the government to achieve substantial benefits for their membership,” he added.

NUBE secretary-general, J. Solomon fully agreed with this and said that if he were to be elected, he would work hard to engage not only the government but also the private sector to appreciate the contribution of the workers towards the nation’s development.

“We want workers to be treated with dignity and as important partners in development,” he emphaised.

Presidential aspirant Khalid said if he were to win, he would endeavour to restore the “image of MTUC as an independent and apolitical workers organization”. “I will ensure that MTUC is united and truly becomes a workers protector and champion,” - G.Rajasegaran - Bernama

Rajasegaran who leaves MTUC after 40 illustrious years as a unionist was spot on.

The Opposition politicians in MTUC had in the last 6-odd years turned the congress into their political tool but Thank God for the right thinking delegates to MTUC's triennial conference this time around.

Looks like the Real MTUC is born-again and almost all the "pests" have been gassed out.

Stand Up MTUC!
